(Washington).- Where tribal and legislative disputes have extended the timeline for a regulated sports betting market in California,

Where native tribes and state legislators have failed to find common ground in their quest to introduce regulated sports betting to California, progress is being made a short drive north in Washington State.
According to the US Sports Betting Legislation Tracker at Odds.com, Washington legalized in-person sports betting in March of this year via HB 2638, which dictates that “bettors can bet online only when they are on the grounds of tribal casinos. Initial projections suggest $38m could be made if Washington embraced online gambling.”
Four of the state’s tribes have already formally applied for licensing that would allow for sports betting to take place within their casinos. As it stands, the Kalispel, Suquamish, Snoqualmie and Tulalip tribes are currently awaiting approval and are actively engaged in conversations surrounding licensing requirements, integrity and enforcement measures to protect all involved with the state’s gaming commission.
When Governor Jay Inslee signed the bill into law four months ago, it stated that wagers would only be accepted on professional sports, but language did leave the door open for collegiate sporting events in the future.
However, the most perplexing part of the bill was the exclusion of mobile wagering options, given that all indications suggest that online and mobile wagering accounts for nearly all revenue gains seen in states like New Jersey.
